November 6th, 2009: I mentioned I like out-of-genre cover songs and you guys sent me so many out of genre cover songs! THIS IS EXCELLENT. I also like money and solid gold cars you guys!

Here's some of the cream of the crop! The Baseballs do 50-style covers of modern music, and Umbrella has a great video to go with it.. It's a window into a universe where rock and roll never stopped rockin' and rollin'!

Kate Nash has done a few of these (and she's got a great voice!), Hollaback Girl is one of my favourites. Amanda Palmer does Creep on the ukulele, and here's Karen Souza doing a sexy lounge version of the same. And I've linked to her before, but fellow Torontoian Kay Pettigrew's cover of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme is totally rad.

With more irony we've got Jenny Owen Youngs doing "Hot in Herre", and you're probably already familiar with Alanis doing My Humps, Mat Weddle doing Hey Yah, and The BossHoss who do pop music "in the original country and western" and who I've even seen live! How about we go with I Say A Little Prayer from them.

Anyway hooray for music that sounds like other music!

November 5th, 2009: I think I have a "thing", and this "thing" is for hip young women singing out-of-genre covers of pop songs with a pure sincerity that completely transcends irony. Enjoy Molly Lewis doing Poker Face and Pomplamoose doing September. Enjoy them knowing that I just listen to them back to back, one after the other, over and over again!

i tried moriah's shampoo, i wonder if it'll make my hair curlier? i always dry my hair, now i'm just letting it dry itself. it's strange. after it dries, i'll go over to cat's apt. then maybe go to east asheville and watch the world series with rob, coby. maybe then i'll wait for vince to call, it is wed. i've had some interesting to fun nights on this night of the week. for now i'll type, listen to built to spill, think about cleaning my room.

soooo.... i don't know why i'm such a poor planner, but...

for thanksgiving this year i bought my ticket really early, like, over a month ago. so i looked at the itinerary the other day and my eyes bugged out. i don't remember doing this, or why i did, but my plane for back to boston leaves at 9:30 Saturday morning. um. anyone want to drive me to the cities at 5am? nope? didn't think so. somehow i have to get back down to the cities friday night. this may not be a problem if christie doesn't have work. but then this could be a big problem.

i could rent a car. but i'd rather not. would it be too much to ask to discuss amongst yourselves and somehow plan to get me where i need to be?

November 2nd, 2009: I took a flight down to NY this weekend (TO PARTY!!!) and on the flight back we were delayed several hours because the President was landing at same airport we were at and so nobody else was allowed to use any planes. You guys, this was probably the closest I've ever physically been to President Obama! Was he also saying "Wow, you guys, this is probably the closest I've ever been to Canadian cartoonist Ryan North"? He was certainly not; there is no possible way he was saying that; we are all allowed to dream but that is the most ridiculous dream imaginable and you should feel ashamed.

Paranoia

You know, I am not a carefree guy in the sense that I take sex lightly. I sleep with different women sure but I am always certain on facts about them such as STD's, married/single, their first/last names. It amazes me that in todays society that I know one or two people who actually depend on PSA (Public Service Announcements) to be on the look out for guys spreading diseases intentionally or sex offenders online. Really?! In this day and age? Like the great comedian Sam Kinison once said, 'if you don't trust the pussy, why are you fucking it?' I think that after all these years that saying still holds true, if you don't really know somebody and you have serious doubts if you can trust them, why are you fucking them? I am not against one night stands or short term dating but with those things, you should obviously be putting in some kind of work to learn about the person you intend on fucking. So, for future reference to any of my friends that read this, do not send me public alerts to be on the look out for women who may have been a victim of a guy spreading STD's intentionally. I am obviously a lot more careful about the people I sleep with than you are.

Social

Recently, my parents have been a lot more sociable via the internet and text messages which is awesome for me since they are not always available to chat on the phone. Today I ran my PFA (Physical Fitness Assessment) test and passed. I am glad. My twice yearly tests for this year are complete, now on to next year. In theory I will have a hard copy of my orders in hand as early as next week which means I will finally be able to start arranging for my things to be packed up and shipped when the time comes for me to go back to Japan in about two months. I am pretty excited now! I have been toying with the idea of going home for the thanksgiving holiday since doing so for the xmas holiday will be a lot more difficult for me since already people I work with have already staked their claims on days off. Right now it is just a theory but I hesitate in putting any real effort into this plan since that holiday falls right into the middle of two deployments for me, which sucks ass. The Navy has sure gotten its going out to sea money from me these past few years and is looking to do it some more in the next couple of years. I don't mind, it seems that going out to sea is what I was built for as it bothers me a lot less than most people. True it does hinder me from having any tangible relationships with people based on being on land, I still ahve the colorful people I meet everyday on the ship to amuse an keep me company. Onto other news, I learned a new feature of Windows Vista which makes me very happy. It seems you can run legacy (old) programs on Vista in older Windows modes. So if a program was made for Windows 95, ME, XP, etc., you can simply run it in that mode on Vista and it will work as advertised or the way you remember it running on an older machine. Basically, it will run as it is supposed to. It makes me happy because now I can reprogram the music machine in my car without having to completely install Windows XP on this newer machine. Speaking of machines, I need to find myself a newer Mac Mini for cheap to set up on my big ass TV so it can be a multimedia cener in my home. The laptop would stay in my bedroom and/or travel with me, the two desktops will remain in my office and in my living room I iwll have access to all my media from all my computers via iTunes and tv TV will serve as a big ass huge monitor! I already tested the laptop conected on the TV and it worked as advertised. I am a technology whore
